Driver dies after colliding with dump truck

NORTH BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — One person is dead following an accident involving a car and a dump truck on Route 22 in North Branford Tuesday afternoon.

North Branford police say the driver of the car was extricated from their vehicle and transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where the person was later pronounced deceased. Police have not yet released the identity of the driver.

Police say the car was driving southbound on Route 22, which is also called Forest Road, and collided with a dump truck traveling north. The crash occurred between Mill Road and Neubigs Way, police said. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

The South Regional Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the fatal accident.
