Norwalk families escape house fire

NORWALK, Conn. (WTNH) – Two families escaped without injury when a fire broke out inside their home early Monday morning.

The owner of the home at 18 Reservoir Avenue lived on the first floor of the two-level home, and was able to wake up residents of the second floor.

Firefighters arrived and quickly put out the fire, which began in the basement. The home sustained significant heat and smoke damage, and has been declared unfit for occupancy.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
