NEW HAVEN, (Conn.) WTNH – A 73-year-old man was critically injured when he was struck by a motorcycle late last night.

The crash happened on Whalley Avenue near Orchard Street at 10:22 p.m.

Police say an elderly man was crossing Whalley Avenue while pushing a shopping cart when he was struck by the motorcycle. The man was rushed to the hospital where he was listed in critical condition. The motorcyclist and his passenger, both from Waterbury, suffered minor injuries.

Police say a preliminary investigation shows that the septuagenarian was crossing against the light, and that the motorcycle had the right of way.
