WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)- The West Haven police department is testing out some new technology to help officers do their job.

The department is testing a bicycle, called a “A2B Patroller.” It has a 500-watt motor, so officers can pedal, or use the motor during their 8 hour shifts. The bicycle can go up to 20 miles-per-hour.

The department says their shoreline patrol division already uses segway’s and mountain bikes. Officers park the vehicles, and walk the boardwalk.

They say as the weather gets nicer, they will increase shoreline patrol to full time.

They say shoreline crime statistics are the lowest they’ve been in years.
