NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A convicted felon whose crimes include rape and assault is facing new charges related to shots fired at New Haven’s Grand Cafe, police said Friday.
Steven Freytes of Branford was found outside the Grand Cafe on April 5. Police were called there after reports of shots fired. Freytes had injuries to his face and hands, but didn’t explain to police how he got hurt.
He also said he’d been shot in the hand, but police say he wasn’t injured.
Officers found him carrying a .22 bullet, and later discovered a .22 rifle behind the bar’s dumpster.
Police eventually determined that Freytes fired the shots. He’s been charged with reckless endangerment and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
