Man charged in strangulation of 89-year-old woman

STRATFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – A 24-year-old Bridgeport resident was arrested Tuesday for the alleged serious assault of an 89-year-old woman last week.

Jose Enrique Correa of Granfield Avenue was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree assault of an elderly person and first-degree strangulation, among other charges.

Police said the incident happened about 7:20 p.m. Thursday, May 8, in the area of Cannan Road and Weber Street in Stratford. The woman had been listed in critical condition.

Correa was taken into custody without incident after he was observed this morning walking on Granfield Avenue, police said. The Bridgeport man remains in the custody of Stratford police. The investigation is ongoing.
