WATCH: Video captures ‘dental burglar’

MANCHESTER, Conn. (WTNH) — Police in Manchester are searching for a “dental burglar.” Police say he’s breaking into dental offices and stealing cash.

One of the ten Columbia Dental Offices around the state has seven dentists practicing at the location in Manchester. They are there 16 hours a day, seven days a week.

Their busiest time is on the weekends and many patients pay in cash.

After hours this past weekend, someone broke in the front door and prowled around the office. It was all captured on security video.

“I’m living in Manchester for the last 14 or 15 years and that’s the first time I have come across…that somebody really break (in) the dental office,” said Dr. Abbas Mohamadi, Columbia Dental.

They have ruled out an employee. Doctor Mohamadi says from the video he can’t tell if it’s a patient. He says he might be able to recognize a suspect’s dental work.

“Not sure what he’s looking for but he’s looking for something and he came with his burglary tool and jacked open this drawer and took the money,” said Jeffery Smith, Columbia Dental.

It is estimated that he got away with about $3,000.

Nothing else was taken, no computers, no drugs.

Columbia Dental is hoping the release of the video will help track down the man. The police in Manchester say they are investigating two or three other robberies at dental practices but this is the only one with video surveillance.
