STONINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — A home invasion in Old Mystic has neighbors concerned and worried for their safety.
“It’s scary,” says Mike Larubina. “It’s an eye opener.”
Larubina lives on Fair Acres Circle where one of his neighbors told police two masked men, at least one armed with a gun, forced their way into his home and demanded money at around 4 a.m. Thursday. Police say the victim didn’t have the money they wanted so they left with his electronics.
The victim is “pretty shaken up over the whole thing,” Larubina said.
“Anytime that we have what appears to be a burglary with people, residents that are at home an interaction like this, or a home invasion if you will, we take it seriously,” said Stonington police Capt. Jerry Desmond.
Police are investigating whether or not the thieves knew the victim. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
“There was another family member in the residence and the time but didn’t hear anything at the time,” Desmond said.
News 8 has learned the victim works at a nearby business. Whether or not that led the thieves to his home or he was a random target is not known, and that is not putting neighbors at ease.
“My door’s locked,” Larubina said. “My vehicle doors are locked… I don’t take any chances anymore.”
Police continue to investigate and folks who live here continue to be on high alert.
