Police in Waterbury investigating death of baby

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — Waterbury police are investigating after the death of a 2-and-a-half-month-old baby.

Police say the baby’s mother called 911 early Thursday morning after she found the boy unresponsive.

The baby was taken to Waterbury Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

News 8 spoke to the baby’s heartbroken grandfather Friday who said the child died in his sleep. He described the awful discovery.

“(The mother was) crying, oh my baby, my baby, and she opened the door and she had the baby … and the baby was blue,” Angel Basquez said.

No arrests have been made. An autopsy has been done but police say the cause of death has yet to be determined.
