A homicide and shooting in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn (WTNH)– Police are investigating a shooting and a homicide in the Elm City.

At 9:14 PM, a 26-yea- man was shot in the area of 52 Oak Ridge Drive. The victim told police he was sitting in his car when unknown person opened his car door and shot him in the upper thigh. Police responded and found the victim alert and conscious. He was taken to Yale- New Haven Hospital and is expected to be okay.

Police also responded to a homicide in the area of 465 Winthrop Avenue. Police say ShotSpotter and several 911 calls alerted police of a shooting at approximately 9:43PM.  Officers arrived and located 44-year-old Otis Powell suffering from several gunshot wounds to his upper body. Otis was rushed to the hospital where he died as a result of his wounds. It is unclear if Powell lived at that address.

Police are looking for witnesses with information to come forward.

Both instances are still under investigation.
