Police K9 helps catch car theft suspects

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Police in West Haven have arrested two teens accused of trying to steal a car.

Police responded to First Avenue and Spring Streets around 12:30 Monday morning after seeing two people dressed in dark clothing and masks.

As officers approached the scene, police say they saw two teens trying to steal the car. The suspects ran when they saw police, but stopped and surrendered when police a K-9 was brought out.

One suspect is 16-years-old so his name was not released.

The other was identified as 19-year-old Tyquan Davis of New Haven.

According to officials, Davis is a convicted sex offender, on probation.

Both Davis and the juvenile were charged with Burglary in the Third degree, and Criminal Attempt to commit Burglary.

The juvenile was released to his mother.

Davis was held on $5,000 bond.
