Oldest person in America celebrates birthday

INKSTER, M.I. (CNN/WTNH) — Jeralean Talley says she figured it all out a long time ago — though who knows how many years that means.

“A long time ago, I asked the good Lord, I said when you get ready to take me home, please, I said, you know my will, all you got to do, use your will,” said Talley, who celebrated her 115th birthday Friday as America’s oldest person. “I said I don’t want to be sick or suffer for a long time. So far, I haven’t suffered so much.”

Talley shared the milestone Friday with her family in the same house she’s been living in outside Detroit since the 1960s. The spry Talley still gets around, too. She walks with a walker and likes to take care of herself.

Born in 1899, Talley is the second oldest person in the world, according to the Gerontology Research Group which says the oldest person in the world is a 116-year-old woman in Japan.
