Pomfret house fire leaves one dead

POMFRET, Conn. (WTNH) — An overnight fire that gutted a home on Brooklyn Road early Saturday has left one person dead, state police said.

The name of the victim has not been released at this time.

The fire broke out at 421 Brooklyn Road about 1:30 a.m. Saturday. According to the Norwich Bulletin, crews from six local departments responded to the blaze.

“The house was fully involved before any crews had arrived,” Pomfret volunteer fire chief Derek May told the Bulletin about 6 a.m. “The state fire marshal is at the scene and will be handling the investigation.”

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
