Plane flips on side coming into Simsbury Airport

Officials are investigating why a plane tipped over onto its roof.

SIMSBURY Conn. (WTNH)–A small plane flipped onto its roof at the Simsbury Airport on Saturday evening, according to police.

The pilot was trapped inside for approximately 10 minutes. He was the only person in the plane. Emergency personnel were able to extract the pilot from the plane. He suffered only minor injuries.

Crews Sunday were able to flip the plane on its correct side, and moved it away from the scene.

“It was upside down, and basically what we did was we lifted the tail end of the airplane and guided him out by sliding the canopy open,” said Captain Jason Gilbert of the Simsbury Fire Department.

The pilot was transported to Simsbury EMS for evaluation.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the accident.
