STONINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Two tractor-trailers collided Saturday morning on I-95 northbound in Stonington and one “caught fire and totally burned,” state police said.
The accident happened between exits 90 and 91 about 4 a.m. Saturday. The highway was completely shut down for about five hours.
Police say a tractor-trailer carrying produce rear-ended a tractor-trailer transporting used tires. The one carrying produce was completely destroyed and its two occupants were transported to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London.
The driver was later transferred via Life Star helicopter to Yale-New Haven Hospital. An update on their condition was not immediately available.
