East Hampton road reopens after crash injures 6

EAST HAMPTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Route 196 in East Hampton has reopened after a three-vehicle accident injured six people — at least one severely — Saturday afternoon.

The collision, which involved a mail truck, a pickup and an SUV, happened about 3:15 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Carriage Drive (see map below). Route 196 is also called Young Street.

One person was transported from the scene via LifeStar helicopter.

easthamptoncrash2 East Hampton road reopens after crash injures 6“We have not been given a status or an update on their injuries at this time,” East Hampton police chief Sean Cox said Saturday afternoon. “We are currently in the preliminary stages of this investigation.”

Cox said specially trained officers from the department are conducting an accident reconstruction.
