BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — One person was killed and another injured in an early morning motorcycle crash on I-95 in Branford. State police said a ‘high rate of speed” figured in the crash.
The crash happened around 1 AM Tuesday morning on the overpass, near Exit 54 Northbound. Police say 37-year-old Kirk Orlando Valentine, of Bridgeport, was traveling in the right lane when his motorcycle was hit from behind by another motorcycle driven by 24-year-old Royce Burns, Jr., of West Haven.
Valentine was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Burns was also taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The crash closed the northbound lanes of I-95 at Exit 54 and traffic was diverted off the highway around the crash scene.
An accident reconstruction crew was there measuring and taking pictures of the wrecks.
All lanes are now open.
