Sunrise State Park back open to the public

EAST HADDAM, Conn. (WTNH)–Sunrise State Park in East Haddam is back open to the public.

The park which is right next to Machimoodus State Park on Route 151 in East Haddam – was once the Sunrise Resort.

During the yearlong shut down the state removed dozens of cabins and small buidings on the 143 acre property. There is no sign for Sunrise State Park so you have to look for the driveway just north of Machimoodus State Park.

The historic buildings next to the entrance are boarded up for safety.

The park is open from 8:00am to sunset each day for hiking, dog walking, wildlife viewing and horseback riding.
