Bookkeeper eyed in VFW irregularities

DARIEN, Conn. (WTNH) — 52-year-old Cynthia Tanner has been arrested for Larceny 1st Degree.

She’s suspected of embezzling over $180,000 last year, from the National Veterans Services Fund. Tanner was the organization’s bookkeeper since 2008.

According to police, further investigation revealed that Tanner was also responsible for the bookkeeping of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars in Darien. She volunteered as the bookkeeper for several years and multiple irregularities were found in its financial statements.

Tanner is being held on a $500,000 bond.
