MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A man shot himself dead on top of a roof Wednesday afternoon after another man was found shot on a nearby lawn, police said.
About 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, a 56-year-old man was discovered bleeding from a chest wound on the front yard of a home on Hollywood Avenue, Milford police chief Keith Mello said.
Michael Savignano, of an uncertain address, was transported to Bridgeport Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Mello said the suspected shooter was traced to home on Midway Avenue, which connects Hollywood Avenue to Wilshire Boulevard (see map below). Officers encountered the man, later identified as 46-year-old Vincent Edwards, on the roof of 16 Midway Ave.
“The male was holding a handgun,” Mello said. “He pointed at the officers, the officers took cover at which time the male fired a shot — we don’t know where that shot went. Thereafter … the male shot himself in the head and died on the roof.”
Police said Edwards lived at the Midway Avenue house.
As a precaution, placed in lockdown Wednesday was nearby Jonathan Law High School, which just a couple months ago was the scene of a fatal stabbing.
“It’s very frightening, it’s very upsetting,” said local Rose Marie Cox. “This was always a very quiet neighborhood and with all these things happening, I really don’t know what to say.”
Mello said police are investigating the relationship between the men.
