2 dead in Windham car crash

NORTH WINDHAM, Conn. (WTNH/AP) — Two people have died after a collision between a car and pickup on Route 6 in North Windham.

State police say the accident happened at about 7 a.m. Thursday near Station Road at the Chaplin town line.

A Ford Ranger, driven by 53-year-old Michael Snow, of Ellington, was traveling eastbound on Rt. 6 near the intersection of Station Road, when a Ford Escort traveling north attempted to cross over Rt. 6. The Ford Ranger struck the driver’s side of the Ford Escort as it crossed over.

The driver of the Ford Escort 48-year-old Norman Holland and passenger, 44-year-old Holly Holland, both of Willimantic, were pronounced dead on scene.

Snow was not injured.

The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information on the crash is urged to call troopers at 860-465-5400.

The highway was expected to remain remained closed in the area for several hours while police investigated the cause of the accident. It has since been reopened.
