First homicide of 2014 in Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Stamford police are investigating the shooting death of a 46-year-old man, the city’s first homicide of the year.

Police identified the victim as William “Buttons” James of Stamford.

The shooting happened in the city’s South End around 8:30 Sunday night. Police found James at the corner of South Pacific St. and Ludlow St. with a gushot wound to the head. he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“Witness’s relayed that a male walked up behind James and fired a single round, striking him in his head,” Stamford police said in a news release.

The gunman ran away eastbound on Ludlow St.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or who may have information to call detectives at 203-977-4417.
