Gas leak in Norwich puts residents on edge

NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH) — A gas leak this morning put one Norwich neighborhood on edge.

It happened on Regis Street when utility crews punctured an old pipe they were replacing. Nearby homes were checked for gas levels but no one had to be evacuated.

“We had the fire department out here just in case but … there was no danger to any of the residents,” said Chris LaRose of Norwich Public Utilities, which responded to the scene.

“There was a gas leak and we came in, we isolated it, we shut it down, and took care of it,” LaRose said.

The utility is doing gas main work across the city, replacing old piping.
