Milford salon offering free cuts for prom

MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Style International is gearing up for a busy Sunday afternoon.

The Milford salon is offering free cuts to girls and boys going to the junior prom at Jonathan Law High School.

The dance was postponed after junior Maren Sanchez was stabbed to death at the school in April.

“That night the tragedy had happened, I felt like had to do something,” says Heather Tkacs of Style International. “I felt terrible.”

Tkacs says so far about 15 students have signed up but she expects a rush of walk-ins from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday when the salon volunteers its time.

“I want them to be happy when they come in,” she says. “This day, it’s kind of like a bittersweet moment for them.”
