MANCHESTER, Conn. (WTNH) — The Manchester Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident involving one vehicle into a pole on Buckland Hills Dr, near the water tower, Sunday morning.

The preliminary investigation revealed around 2:30 AM, a Subaru WRX was traveling Eastbound at a high rate of speed when it exited the road to the North after crossing over the Westbound lanes.  The car collided with a light pole in front of 233 Buckland Hills Dr.

The driver, 27-year-old Ahad J Malik, of Vernon, was entrapped in the heavily damaged vehicle and pronounced dead on scene.  The passenger, 28-year-old Anil Karunanidhi, of Manchester, was transported to Hartford Hospital.

Police say while very early in the investigation, it appears that speed and/or driver impairment may have been factors in this crash.

Members of the Manchester Police Traffic Unit and the Metro Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to investigate. The collision remains under investigation
