HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The Connecticut Supreme Court has ruled that a former doctor charged with killing a Yale University physician is entitled to taxpayer dollars for defense experts while he represents himself.

Justices said the state public defenders’ office must pay for experts and investigators for Lishan Wang, who’s charged with murder in the shooting death of Dr. Vajinder Toor in 2010 outside Toor’s home in Branford.

Wang also is charged with attempted murder for shooting at Toor’s pregnant wife, who wasn’t harmed.

Authorities say the shooting apparently stemmed from a dispute Wang and Toor had while working together at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center in New York City.

Wang qualifies for a public defender, but wants to represent himself. Wang has said he wants to hire noted forensic scientist Henry Lee.
