Former state trooper charged with sexual assault of 81-year old woman

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)–A former state trooper has been arrested on sexual assault charges, and the alleged victim is an 81-year old woman.

43-year old Jeffrey Laporto’s allegedly sexually assaulted the woman while she was in town to see her husband in a convalescent home. Laporto’s attorney David Papcsy said the sex was consensual.

Papcsy said the pair met at the quality inn hotel bar, had a drink and then went back to her room. Police say it was rape. The victims did not want to have sex and was hospitalized for internal injuries.

“The fact that there is a disparity in age here and although it may be sensational, is not uncommon. It’s very common in today’s world,” said Papcsy.

The court of public opinion certainly disagrees.

“He’s got a screw loose, I don’t think it was consensual, she is 81, come on,” one woman said.

“That’s kind of ridiculous, 81 years old, right,” another resident said.

“You would really expect more from your law enforcement officers,” yet another said.

“From my understanding the rape kit that was done was done by a nurses assistant, that is something that I would have my own expert take a look at, to see if those are substantial injuries for an everyday person at any age,” Papcsy said.

While the attorneys for Laporto have been talking and laying out their case for what they say happened at the Quality Inn, police can’t say much because the court file has been sealed for 14 days, however police will say they did a through investigation and the evidence led them to make the arrest.

“The call came in early Friday morning and we ran with it continuously until we developed enough evidence until we felt comfortable that enough probable cause was established for the arrest,” said Deputy Sargeant Paul Cherniack of Windsor Locks.

State police said Laporto was fired as a trooper but could not reveal why. Laporto was also in the military where his attorney says he was discharged honorably, and that he has a wife and two children.

“She does support her husband, her husband of twenty years, father of her two children and she is standing by him,” Papcsy said.
