HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) — Quinnipiac University will present a lifetime achievement award to veteran journalist Barbara Walters.
Lee Kamlet, dean of Quinnipiac’s School of Communications, said Walters demonstrates the characteristics the school wants its students to develop, such as curiosity, the pursuit of knowledge and a willingness to work harder than competitors.
The award will be presented at the university’s annual Fred Friendly First Amendment Award Luncheon on Tuesday at the Metropolitan Club in New York.
It’s named for the late CBS News president and champion of freedom of speech. The last lifetime achievement award recipient was First Amendment lawyer Floyd Abrams in 2008.
Previous recipients of the Fred Friendly award were TV journalists Ted Koppel, Jim Lehrer, Robert MacNeil and Lesley Stahl.
