Police: 34-year-old man shot dead in Hartford

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A 34-year-old Hartford man was fatally shot in the head Saturday afternoon in Hartford, police said.

It happened at about 1 p.m. Saturday on the east sidewalk of South Green Park, deputy police chief Brian Foley said in a statement. The area is across the street from 66 Main St., he said.

“This incident appears to be a deliberate and specific attack on the victim,” Foley said.

The victim was identified as Huberto O’Neil, of Hartford.

Later, Foley told News 8 that “there are some indications it has some gang ties.”

(Note: At about 6 p.m. Saturday, a second shooting was reported on Albany Avenue. Foley said that victim is in critical condition.)

Foley said O”Neil was found lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds to the face and head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is the city’s sixth homicide of 2014. Major crimes is investigating.
