NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– New Haven police have made an arrest in an armed robbery that happened in Edgewood Park Saturday evening.
Police say 30-year-old Neil Zintner was confronted by a man, later identified as 19-year-old Equan Coleman, in the park who asked to use his phone. When he gave Coleman his phone, Coleman allegedly put the phone in his pocket and told Zintner that he wouldn’t be giving it back.
Coleman also showed the victim the handle of a gun tucked into his waistband. The victim told police that Coleman then rode off on a bike with another teen.
Officers later found a man matching the suspect’s description riding a bicycle with another teen sitting on the handlebars. When officers approached them, they ran away down separate streets.
The teen was later found hiding in some shrubbery on Chapel Street. Police found Coleman at his home sitting on his front porch on the same street.
Coleman was charged with robbery, larceny and threatening.
The other teen on the bike, who is a juvenile, was charged with interfering and trespassing.
