BRISTOL, Conn. (WTNH) — Some neighbors are on edge after at least six homes were broken into over the past three nights.
Screens have been cut, doors jimmied. Thieves took $600 from one woman Tuesday night while she was sleeping.
“Last night, I made sure everything was locked,” the woman said. “I locked the cars, everything, and I have no idea how they got in.”
Another woman whose home was broken into overnight said she woke up to find grass throughout her house and her purse ransacked. She said they went door to door throughout the neighborhood.
The thieves weren’t able to break into some homes that they tried to enter, neighbors told News 8. Police say they are working the case hard and have increased patrols in the area. Officers got a little help from a neighbor who saw a man on his back porch and gave the description to police.
“The motion sensor lights went on and I looked outside and there he was walking down my back yard,” Nick Cote said. “He was in all black, black T-shirt, black backpack.”
Neighbors are doing everything and anything to protect themselves. John Green says he’s got a can of wasp spray waiting for anyone who tries to break in.
“I will keep it next to the bed,” he said. “If someone comes in, they are going to get it.”
