83-year-old woman struck by car near school

NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH) — An 83-year-old woman is in critical condition after she was struck by a car near a Norwich school this morning.

Police say they responded to the area of West Town Street near Huntington School at 9:25 a.m. to the report of a pedestrian hit but a car traveling down West Town Street.

The female pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was treated at the scene before being taken to William W. Backus Hospital.

She is currently listed in critical condition. The driver of the car was not injured. Norwich police are on scene investigating the accident.

West Town Street in the area of Huntington School will be closed for several hours during the investigation. Traffic is being diverted from the area and drivers are urged to take alternate routes.

Police say there was a graduation going on at the school nearby at the time of the accident.
