Pedestrian struck by car in Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Bridgeport police say a pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a vehicle that veered onto a sidewalk after a collision with a pick-up truck.

Police say the accident happened at about 3:15 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Barnum Avenue and Elizabeth Street. A Ford pick-up truck and a Nissan minivan collided at the intersection.

Police say the impact caused the Nissan to leave the roadway, cross a sidewalk and crash into a building. The pedestrian, a 47-year-old Bridgeport resident, was struck.

The fire department extricated the victim from underneath the vehicle.

The accident remains under investigation at no charges have been filed. The name of the injured man was not released.
