MANCHESTER, Conn. (WTNH)– Manchester police are investigating a car crash that left a 26-year-old man dead and a 23-year-old man in critical condition Thursday.

Police say they responded to a car crash at East Center Street at Holl Street around 8:30 PM where they found a car had collided with a utility pole.

An early investigation showed that the Nissan Maxima was traveling northbound on Holl Street at high rate of speed when it exited the road to the west and struck the pole at the corner of both streets.

The driver, Aqwan Huff, was entrapped in the heavily damaged car. He was pronounced dead on scene.

The passenger, Shelton Johnson, was transported to Hartford Hospital then later flown by LifeStar to Bridgeport Hospital’s Burn Center where he remains in critical condition.

Police believe speed and/or driver impairment may have been a factor in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed it is urged to contact Manchester police at (860) 645-5560.
