Dog killed in Bridgeport fire

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Several families were able to escape a fire that heavily damaged a Bridgeport apartment house.

The fire broke out just before 11 p.m. on first floor of the three-story building on Hudson Street.

Firefighters had to restrain one resident who attempted to re-enter the building to rescue his dog. The animal was later found dead the kitchen of the first-floor unit where the fire began.
