WATERTOWN, Conn. (WTNH) — A Watertown man is facing multiple charges after causing a gas leak and then refusing to leave his house on Saturday.

Police say, 48-year-old Christopher Demirs was trying to kill himself. Police arrived at Oak Drive around 8:30pm. The area was evacuated, and then an officer was able to turn off that gas line.

After hours of negotiation, police say, Demirs began hurting himself. He was arrested and treated for his injuries.

He’s charged with reckless endangerment, attempt at criminal mischief, and breach of peace.

Demirs is being held on $75,000 dollars bond.
