Garbage truck takes down pole, wires

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — One direction of State Street in New Haven has been closed after a garbage truck took down some overhead wires and a utility pole.

The garbage truck was collecting trash when it took down wires near 947 State Street. The northbound side of the road is closed.

United Illuminating reports 31 customers in New Haven are without power.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has been called in to check whether oil from a transformer might have leaked into a storm drain.
