Concerns over safety at DJ Avicii show at Mohegan Sun Friday

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (WTNH)–Popular DJ Avicii is bringing his show to the Mohegan Sun on Friday night.

His show in Boston turned out to be a mess, as more than 30 people wound up in the hospital, and dozens more were treated at the scene. Police blamed alcohol and the popular club drug “Molly.”

“Everyone is on drugs and really drunk, so it’s pretty dangerous,” said James Darney, who has been to electronic dance music (EDM) concerts.

He said hearing that people have taken “Molly” at those concerts is not surprising.

“These kids are getting on these kinds of drugs and don’t understand like what it’s doing,” said Elizabeth Draney of Montville. “They’re just trying to have a good time, but they don’t understand how far they can take it and it’s just really dangerous.”

“I think the security at Mohegan Sun is pretty good and they do an awesome job of keeping people out. So hopefully not but I’m sure there will be a few incidents,” said Darney.

“There’s awareness now and so with that awareness more action will be take to stop it,” said Kristen Crandall of Montville.

The one possible change News 8 did notice with this concert is that we were told no video taping would be permitted inside the arena.
