Journalist does international experiment about beauty standards

Kansas City, Missouri (WTNH) — Everyone has a different definition of beauty, and a freelance journalist found an interesting way to test what classifies being “beautiful” in different countries.

Honig, who’s originally from Oakland, California, took a picture of herself with no makeup and bare shoulders.  She sent it out to more than 40 other journalists and asked them to “make her pretty.”

Honig got back about dozens of results, and while some of the images weren’t altered very much, other images shocked her.

When asked what she learned about the project, she replied, “Photoshop allows us to achieve our unobtainable standards of beauty, but when we compare those standards on a global scale, achieving the ideal remains all the more elusive.”
