Novelist assaulted in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)-  New Haven Police are continuing to investigate an assault that happened on June 28 at the Study Hotel on Chapel Street.

Officers and EMTs were called just after 10 p.m. after reports that a man was assaulted and injured by a white man who punched him. Witness accounts say the victim may have tried to assist a woman involved in a dispute. The woman’s companion may be the assailant detectives are looking for.

The victim, 49 year old Colum McCann, of New York, was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he was treated for significant but non-life threatening facial injuries.

Mr. McCann spoke with detectives and has been released from the hospital.

Police say they have significant leads in this case and are hopeful an arrest will be made soon.
