Teen arrested on gun charges near West Haven fireworks display

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– West Haven police arrested an 18-year-old New Haven man on gun charges after police say he was part of a group that planned to disrupt the city’s fireworks display Saturday night.

Police say around 8 PM, they received information that a group of males who may have gang affiliation, were walking on Elm Street near Kimberly Avenue.

It was also discovered that these males were planning to disrupt the city’s fireworks display by potentially fighting another group.

When officers stopped the group, they found one teen to be in possession of a loaded .25 caliber handgun.

Jahmal Gibbs was arrested for possession of a pistol without a permit, carrying a dangerous weapon, altering ID number on a firearm and narcotics charges for possessing a small amount of marijuana. He was held on bond.
