Community rallying behind 3-year-old with life-threatening disease

DERBY, Conn. (WTNH)–Members of the Derby community are putting together a fundraiser for a courageous 3-year old girl from West Haven who is living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

Three-year old Eva suffers from a disease that makes it difficult to breathe, cough, and swallow. She will never be able to sit, stand, crawl, or walk, and in most cases there is no treatment or cure.

Most infants and toddlers with the disease don’t see their second birthday, but now at the age of 3, Eva is defying the odds every day.

Recently, her family bought a van for her needs, and they’re having a hard time paying it off.

The fundraiser, which began at 6 p.m. and goes until 9 p.m. Monday at the Valley Diner on New Haven Avenue in Derby, will benefit young Eva.

You can donate to her cause right here.
