Soldier dad surprises son at camp

ELLINGTON, Conn. (WTNH)– A local soldier has come home from Afghanistan and surprised his family Wednesday.

As any family will tell you, time apart can be painful. Now imagine if a father had to spend more than a year away from his. It’s the reality military families across the country live with daily, but for one Connecticut family that time apart is now over.

A day at camp can be magical especially when there’s a magician whose stopped by.

At Camp Indian Valley in Ellington it just so happens when it comes to this particular magician he has a little more magic up his sleeve, or is it perhaps in his hat?

Because on Wednesday afternoon he’s being assisted by 9-year-old Ethan Christensen, a young man who isn’t afraid to laugh at himself, which is good thing because the joke is about to be on him.

After 13 months apart, he was reunited with his father, Major Timothy Christensen, and Ethan had no idea.

All he had to do was turn around.

Sometimes to bring a family together all it takes is a little magic.

Ethan wasn’t the only surprised Christensen Wednesday, his 11-year-old sister was also surprised by her father the Major at the Hartford stage.
