Traffic stop leads to heroin bust

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (WTNH) — Police arrested a Willimantic man after finding 247 bags of heroin in his car during a routine traffic stop.

Police say 47-year-old Jose Agosto ran after being stopped around 6p.m. Tuesday. He was pulled over at a routine stop in the area of Chapman and Ives streets.

According to officials Agosoto jumped out of his truck and ran on foot before an officer caught him while he was trying to hop a fence. Police say Agosto attempted to kick the officer, and after a short struggle, Agosto was arrested.

Willimantic Police later found 247 bags of heroin, pre-packaged for sale. That amount of drugs has a total street value of approximately $1,500.

Agosto is facing a list of charges, including Possession of Narcotics, Possession of Narcotics with Intent to Sell within 1500’ of a School, and Interfering with an Officer.

He is being held on $250,000.00 bond.
