NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — The finishing touches are being put on New London’s annual celebration Sailfest on the banks of the Thames River.
The event begins its three day run at Noon today. Along with tall ships and thrill rides, the event hosts one of the largest fireworks displays in the Northeast.
The Schooner Virginia will be docked, and the State of Connecticut is putting pressure on the operators of the Amistad to also be there.
To help ease traffic getting to and leaving the festival, The Connecticut Department of Transportation is running special Shore Line East trains Between New Haven and New London on Friday, with limited stops in between, and there are special fireworks trains scheduled for Saturday.
