(WTNH) — Hartford is gearing up for a busy Saturday when several groups will come together to hold a gun buyback event.

The program is an effort to get unwanted guns off the streets.

Today at 11 a.m., representatives from local organizations will announce the “Big Gun Buy Campaign”. It will kick off on Saturday at the Stewart-Johnson Center, 127 Martin Street, in Hartford’s northeast community.

The buyback will start at 10 a.m. and go until 3 p.m.

Local activists hope this gun buyback program will create a safer community.
