STONINGTON, Conn. (AP) — A caregiver at a Stonington retirement community faces charges she stole from an elderly couple, and used their credit card to pay for phone calls from her imprisoned boyfriend.
The Day of New London reports 32-year-old Yadira Farias was arraigned Monday on larceny and credit card theft charges.
She is being held in lieu of $49,000 bond and has been ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation.
Police say Farias stole up to $100,000 in silver, jewelry and other items from the couple at the Stone Ridge retirement community. Police say she also racked up more than $3,100 in credit-card charges, including $600 to pay for her boyfriend’s prison phone calls.
The couple told police they began noticing missing items shortly after Farias began working for them in December.
