WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — An Elm Street man is accused of punching a police officer after he was pulled over early Thursday morning.

Jamaal Lance, 28, is charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer, two counts of interfering with police and several motor vehicle violations. Police said he was stopped Campbell Avenue and Elm Street about 2 a.m. and was “belligerent,” taking a boxer’s stance as officers approached. He then punched an officer in the face with a closed fist, and they began to struggle, police said.

One officer had a broken finger and another officer had scrapes and cuts, police said. Lance’s bond and court date were not immediately available.
