Report It Recap – July 18, 2014

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — From sunrise to sunset, storm damage to the Super Moon, a ship, some shells, and a swing bridge; this week’s Report It Recap is kinda special, pretty spectacular, and — with apologies to Sesame Street – brought to you by the letter by the “S”.

“S” as in storms starting with Steven and Robin’s video from East Haven Tuesday night. The storms we saw this past week were something — heavy rain flooded streets made scout camps soggy and Kage the dog sad. Lightning made for some sleepless nights, slashing through the sky and striking some trees, sometimes splitting them, as Cerese showed us.

“S” as in spewing water, from a broken main in Milford a sofa, some scraps and other trash, eyesores in West Haven and Bridgeport and a shift of traffic coming into downtown New Haven.

“S” as in the sunset which so many of you sent in Wednesday night. So stunning. Dawn couldn’t decide whether to pay attention to it or the baseball game. Same for Kevin in the stands at his daughter’s softball game.

Speaking of softball, which also starts with “S”, congrats to the girls from Branford who won an annual tournament. Not to be out done congrats to a group of Branford boys who are district champs.

Speaking of baseball, the sport paid tribute to retiring Yankees captain Derek Jeter at the All-Star game this week – Vin’s kids honored Jeter too.

But back to “S” as in the street – dedicated to David Cappetta in West Haven. “S” as in soccer – the World Cup FInal split these sisters in Shelton. And “S” as in Sailfest, a fun event which featured some fireworks. We saw fireworks Saturday in Hartford as well, the city skyline’s the backdrop in Bill’s superb pictures.

Which brings us to “S” as in Super Moon; Bill shot that too. And he wasn’t alone. So many of you sent shots of the supernatural scene.
