GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) — Gun control advocates say they plan to hold a peaceful demonstration outside a Connecticut Republican Party fundraising event featuring New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
The groups are upset with Christie’s recent veto of legislation that would have reduced the legal capacity for ammunition magazines from 15 rounds to 10. Christie said the bill didn’t make sense to him as a way to curb gun violence.
The Newtown Action Alliance and Connecticut Against Gun Violence are also upset Christie did not meet with the parents of children killed in the Newtown school shooting. Christie said he already signed the veto by the time they arrived, and that it would have been “hypocritical” for him to sit down with them at that point.
Monday’s fundraiser will benefit state constitutional and legislative candidates.
